“In” Speech Marketing – Meet Everyone!
My repeat and add-on business increases significantly when I can meet everyone in my audience before my speech. This requires enormous discipline and logistical skill. Here’s how you can use this technique to establish relationships which lead to more business:
· Set-up the meeting room early so you are free to meet, shake hands with, and talk to everyone as they walk into the room. It’s more professional if you aren’t distributing handouts or testing sound equipment. I prefer to set-up my room the night before a morning speech when I can…or if it’s not possible, very early in the morning BEFORE I change into a pressed suit and clean white shirt.
· Have something to say when you meet people
- thank them for coming
- ask them where they are from and what they do
- refer to a previous phone conversation you’ve had with them
· Remember 4-5 names and conversations that you can refer to during your speech
