What If Your Colleagues Don’t Get Around to Sending Your Referral Letter?
If someone agrees to send your referral letter (and they will), but you haven’t received your copy, you can assume they haven’t sent it. A reminder call to them goes something like, “I’m sure you are very busy and haven’t had time to send the letter, so if you’ll send me a sheet of your letterhead and envelope, I’ll be happy to type it and mail it.” This always gets them to send your letter as promised.
Sometimes you might have the person who is referring you include your marketing kit or sales materials. Always give them the postage so they won’t incur any of their own cost or be delayed looking for stamps. Include TWO stamps—one for the original letter and one for your copy. My experience is, if you give someone a stamp, they feel obligated to fulfill their promise to you. Plus, why should they have to use their own postage to do you a favor?
