4Profit Ways to Take a Business Card

·        Look at the card for a few seconds before you put it in your pocket or purse…it shows respect and interest

·        Treat the card you take with respect. Cramming it quickly into your pocket sends the message that you don’t care

·        Write on the card before you put it away so you don’t forget where you met the person and what you discussed

·        Use folds to code the cards when you can’t write on them. Example: a right corner fold indicates some follow-up; a left corner fold prompts you to add the person to your mailing list

·        Use your pockets in the same way – right pocket for follow-up, left pocket for your mailing list

·        Don’t ask for cards you don’t plan to do anything with…you’ll just overload your follow-up work

·        Refer to the other person’s card during your conversation to help you remember names and important information

·        If you get a lot of cards in a short amount of time and can’t make long notes, assign each one with a numerical follow-up code (1-5), so you can prioritize your follow-up and maximize time management
