Why a Manual: The Price is Right
A manual with information that your audiences and clients can use to solve their problems or access opportunity is worth…well, you have to decide. (we’ll discuss pricing in detail later) Unlike a book whose price is set by the publisher and printed on the cover, you can charge any price you want for your manual. The laws of supply and demand definitely exist.
When you have information that people can’t get (or haven’t gotten) on their own, YOU decide your manual’s value and it’s generally 2,3,10 times the price most speakers sell books for.
The price you set depends on the value of the information (in the eyes of the customer obviously) and the relative scarcity of the information in the marketplace. You may have a valuable formula for getting and keeping employees, but if there are 47 other books with the same information you can’t charge as much. This is why becoming an expert in an area is so important—the more you know that others don’t, the more you can charge for your information.
