Controlling the Selling Environment – Room Temperature
Short of getting your certification in heating and air conditioning, there’s not always anything you can do about your room temperature. But you have to do everything you can. People that are too cold or too warm won’t buy your materials. Besides the fact that your audience is ticked off for being uncomfortable, as soon as you are finished speaking, they’ll rush out the door to warm up or cool off. I always meet with someone at the meeting facility to ask about how to get the temperature raised or lowered quickly.
I know that between adrenaline and my wool suit, that I will be warmer than my audience. But I also know that a room without people in it is cooler than one with 100 carbon-dioxide emitting bodies.
The only time in the last two years I didn’t sell my materials to 25% of the audience was a speech in Austin where the a/c broke and the temperature in the room was so warm, it liquefied a 5 gallon can of rock hard ice cream brought in for the break.
